Police looking for crooks for beheading LG chair

Police in Imo State on Monday confirmed the beheading of the sole administrator of the state’s Ideato North Local Government Area, Chris Ohizu.

Ohizu was abducted along with two others on Friday after his mansion in the Imoko community, Arondizuogu, was set on fire by thugs.

He was killed after his captors reportedly received N6m as a ransom.

Video clips of his beheading surfaced online on Sunday, where his killers insisted there would be no elections in the country.

A council source said the killers posted the clips from the victim’s phone to his WhatsApp status.

“The videos were horrific. He was tied up and half naked before being beheaded. That was a painful way to die. They slaughtered him after receiving a N6 million ransom,” the source added.

State police spokesman Henry Okoye said in a statement Monday that the warrant had assembled a team of officers to deal with the suspects.

The statement read in part: “The Imo State Police Command is aware of the unjust and obscene video that has gone viral on social media in which a man, believed to be the kidnapped Ideato North LGA sole administrator, was seen kneeling and his hands tied while inhumanly undergo deed. He was then killed by suspected members of the Forbidden Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed partner, Eastern Security Network.”

The police spokesperson said that an investigation has been launched into the kidnapping and murder of the victim.

He noted that the commandos tracked down the crooks before the “obscene video” appeared on the Internet.

Okoye urged the public to help police with credible information and to report any clandestine activity or suspicious person to the nearest police station.
